There’s something extra magical about visiting Hong Kong Disneyland. Maybe it’s the backdrop of lush green mountains, the unique Disney touches woven throughout the park, or the fact that it feels both familiar and completely different all at once.
As someone who loves Disney parks, visiting Hong Kong Disneyland had been on my bucket list for years – and it absolutely lived up to the hype!!
Smaller than some of the other Disney parks around the world? Yes. But full of charm, incredible food, unique attractions, and some of the cutest snacks I’ve ever had (giving Tokyo Disney a run for it’s money!!).
If you’re planning a visit, here’s my guide to making the most of your day at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Why Visit Hong Kong Disneyland?
Hong Kong Disneyland has such a special feel to it. It blends classic Disney magic with local culture in a way that feels really unique. You’ll still find iconic castles, beloved attractions, and all the nostalgia you’d expect – but with details that make it completely its own.
One of my favorite things about the park is how scenic it feels. Between the tropical landscaping, mountain backdrop, and waterfront setting on Lantau Island, it’s genuinely beautiful before you even step on a ride.
And thanks to the park’s smaller size, and surprisingly short wait times, it’s incredibly manageable in a day – which means less rushing and more soaking it all in.
Best Time to Visit Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland is open year-round, but the best time to visit really depends on what kind of trip you’re after.
- October to December is a great time for cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and seasonal Halloween or Christmas offerings.
- January to March is generally mild and comfortable for walking around the park.
- Summer can be very hot, humid, and rainy – but if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll still have an amazing time.
I’d recommend arriving before park opening if you can – the lines are long at rope drop, but they move quickly once the park is open.
How to Get to Hong Kong Disneyland
Getting to Hong Kong Disneyland is surprisingly easy, whether you’re staying onsite or visiting from central Hong Kong for the day.
From the City: If you’re coming from the city, the easiest way is by taking the MTR. You can take the Tung Chung Line to Sunny Bay Station, then transfer to the Disneyland Resort Line which honestly feels like part of the experience itself.
From the Airport: If you’re coming from the airport, you can take the airport express train at the airport and ride one stop to Tsing Yi Station. Then transfer to the Tung Chung Line to Sunny Bay Station, then transfer to the Disneyland Resort Line.
The Disneyland Resort Line is themed with Disney windows, Mickey-shaped handrails, and fun little details throughout the train, so the magic starts before you even arrive at the park.
Where to Stay at Hong Kong Disneyland
If you can, I would recommend booking a night or two right on Disney property. One of the best parts of staying onsite is how easy it makes everything. There’s something so nice about waking up surrounded by Disney magic, knowing the park is just minutes away. No early train connections, no city commute – just a relaxed morning, coffee in hand, and straight into a Disney day.
For my visit, I stayed at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. The hotel itself has a fun old-Hollywood-meets-Disney feel, with lots of art deco details, hidden Disney touches, and beautiful waterfront views. It felt peaceful while still keeping that Disney atmosphere going beyond the parks. The other parks on Disney property include: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney Explorer’s Lodge (both are on my bucket list for my next visit!)
Getting to the parks is extremely easy. Each Disney hotel offers a complimentary shuttle bus to Hong Kong Disneyland, which runs regularly throughout the day. It only takes a few minutes and makes getting to and from the park incredibly convenient.

Must-Do Attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland
There are some classic attractions here, but also several that are unique to Hong Kong Disneyland and those are definitely worth prioritizing:
Mystic Manor
Hands down one of my favorite Disney attractions anywhere in the world.
Think Haunted Mansion… but not Haunted Mansion. It’s beautifully themed, creative, funny, and completely unique to Hong Kong Disneyland. If you do one thing in the park – make it this.
Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars
Hong Kong Disneyland’s answer to Big Thunder Mountain – with a few surprises (I won’t spoil – but you are going to love it!!) This was my absolute favorite ride at the park (I think I hopped in the single rider line and ended up riding it at least eight times in the two days I was there!!)
World of Frozen
One of the newest additions to the park – and absolutely stunning.
Walking through Arendelle feels like stepping straight into the film. The details are incredible, and it quickly became one of my favorite lands to explore (and how cute is the olaf ice cream!!)
Castle of Magical Dreams
Hong Kong Disneyland’s castle is beautiful and definitely worth taking time to walk around, photograph, and admire from every angle.
What to Eat at Hong Kong Disneyland
Disney food is always part of the experience – and Hong Kong Disneyland has some seriously great options (and simply adorable options too!!)
One of the things I loved most was how the park offers both classic Disney snacks and dishes inspired by local cuisine.
A few of my favorites:
- Character Dim Sums (make a reservation at the Crystal Lotus restaurant at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel – expensive but worth it for the cuteness!)
- The adorable ice-cream bars that you can’t find in the Florida or California parks (like Donald Duck and Stitch’s paw shaped ice creams!)
- Lotso Waffle Sandwich in Toy Story Land (weirdly it was savoury not sweet – but delicious!)
- Olaf soft serve in World of Frozen
- Everything at Moana’s Wayfinders Table
- Hong Kong milk tea
- Chip n Dale Churros at Grizzly Gulch

Stay for the nighttime spectacular
The nighttime castle show is absolutely worth staying for. Seeing the castle lit up drones and fireworks is always a disney must-see, wherever you are in the world.
Celebrating Your Birthday at Hong Kong Disneyland
One of my favorite memories from visiting Hong Kong Disneyland was celebrating my 30th birthday there – and honestly, I can’t imagine a more magical place to spend it. There’s just something extra special about walking down Main Street with a birthday badge on, hearing Cast Members wish you happy birthday throughout the day, and soaking up all that Disney magic with the castle in the background.
Is Hong Kong Disneyland Worth Visiting?
Absolutely. I’ve been to almost every park around the world and this is up there as one of my favourites.
Whether you’re a lifelong Disney fan or just looking for a fun day while visiting Hong Kong, it’s such a memorable experience. It feels intimate, beautifully themed, and full of details that make it stand apart from every other Disney park. For me, it was the perfect mix of nostalgia, adventure, and discovering something completely new.
And if you’re anything like me… once you visit once, you’ll already be planning your return before you leave Main Street.
Final Thoughts
Visiting Hong Kong Disneyland had been on my travel wish list for years, and it ended up being even more magical than I imagined. Especially as it was my 30th birthday!
Between riding Mystic Manor for the first time, wandering through the castle gardens, snacking my way around the park, and watching the nighttime lights sparkle over the castle – it was one of those Disney days I’ll never forget.

How to Get Around Hong Kong – Octopus Card
Getting around Hong Kong is incredibly easy thanks to the city’s efficient public transport system. From my research, picking up an Octopus Card at the airport and using it for your trip was highly recommended – it makes getting around seamless and can be used on the MTR, buses, trams, ferries, and even at convenience stores. While the Octopus Card is cheaper, I didn’t have cash readily available to top up the card (for some reason the 7 Elevens only accept cash to top up the card) so I just found it easier to just tap my apple pay at the MTR gates.
The MTR is by far the easiest way to explore the city and get to Hong Kong Disneyland, but taxis and ride shares are also widely available if you’re heading somewhere more direct.
Hong Kong SIM Card: Airalo eSIM
Staying connected in Hong Kong is a must for maps, transport apps, bookings, and Googling “best egg waffles near me” (trust me). I used Airalo, an eSIM app that lets you download a Hong Kong data plan before you even land.
