If there’s one country that feels like it was plucked straight from another planet, it’s Iceland. From thundering waterfalls and black sand beaches to puffin-covered cliffs and steaming hot springs, this place is a dream for anyone who loves road trips and jaw-dropping landscapes. I spent two weeks driving the famous Ring Road in summer, and honestly – it was one of the most insane adventures I’ve ever taken.

Summer in Iceland means long days (hello, midnight sun!) and the chance to see so much of the country in a short amount of time. One day I was hiking across a glacier in South Iceland, the next I was spotting puffins on a rugged cliffside, and before I knew it, I was soaking in natural geothermal hot springs in Myvatn. Along the way, I chased what felt like a hundred waterfalls, stood in awe at Diamond Beach as icebergs sparkled in the surf, and went whale watching in the North of Iceland.

What makes Iceland especially great for travelers is how safe and easy it is to explore. Renting a car gave me total freedom to stop wherever I wanted (which, let’s be real, was about every five minutes). Whether you’re in it for the landscapes, the adventure, or the chance to meet some very friendly sheep along the road, Iceland will steal your heart – it most certainly stole mine.
