No trip to San Francisco is complete without laying eyes on the Golden Gate Bridge. Whether it’s shrouded in fog or glowing bright orange under the California sun, this world-famous landmark is just as breathtaking in real life as it is in the photos. On my trip, visiting the Golden Gate Bridge was a highlight – and it’s surprisingly easy to fit into any San Francisco itinerary.

Where to See the Golden Gate Bridge
There are so many ways to experience the bridge, and each offers a different perspective:
- Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center: The main visitor spot on the San Francisco side, where you can walk right onto the bridge and grab classic postcard shots.
- Battery Spencer: Located on the Marin Headlands side, this is the spot for that iconic view of the bridge with the San Francisco skyline in the background.
- Crissy Field: A relaxed waterfront park where you can picnic or stroll with a picture-perfect view of the bridge stretching across the bay.
- Baker Beach: For a scenic (and sandy) backdrop, head here — the bridge looks especially beautiful at sunset.

Walking or Biking the Bridge
One of the best experiences is actually walking or biking across the bridge. The pedestrian path is about 1.7 miles long, so it takes roughly 30–45 minutes to walk one way (longer if you stop for lots of photos, which you will!). Biking is a popular choice too, with rentals available in the city – you can even ride all the way to Sausalito and take the ferry back.

Another great way to see the bridge is taking a hop on hop off tour bus and stopping on the other side of the bridge.

Tips for Visiting
- Layer up: Even on sunny days, the wind on the bridge can be chilly.
- Go early or late: Midday gets busy with crowds, so mornings or late afternoons are more peaceful (and have better light for photos).
- Check the fog: Sometimes the bridge hides in San Francisco’s famous fog, which can be magical – but if you want clear views, keep an eye on the weather.
- Hike up to Battery Spencer – if you’re up for a short hike, the walk up to Battery Spencer was so worth it for the views!

Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge in person was one of those bucket list travel moments for me. Whether you walk across it, admire it from the beach, catch it on a clear or a foggy day, the Golden Gate Bridge will leave you in awe.
