One of the biggest perks of working on a cruise ship? You get paid to travel the world! Over the past seven years working at sea, I’ve explored dozens of destinations – from turquoise Caribbean beaches to fairy-tale European villages – and I’ve fallen in love with so many cruise ports along the way. These are my top 10 favorite cruise ship ports I’ve had the joy of visiting as a crew member!
1. Olden, Norway – A Hidden Gem in the Norwegian Fjords
Olden might just be the most magical place I’ve ever been. Nestled in the heart of the Norwegian fjords, this tiny village is surrounded by towering mountains, glassy water, and the kind of peaceful silence you only find in nature.
Sailing into the port was surreal – like floating into a postcard. I hiked through breathtaking landscapes to the Briksdal Glacier, one of the most awe-inspiring sights I’ve ever seen. If you love scenic views and adventure, Olden is one of the best cruise ports in Europe to experience nature’s raw beauty.

2. Lisbon, Portugal – Culture, Color & Custard Tarts
Lisbon totally stole my heart. This port is right in the city, so it’s perfect for exploring on foot. Between the pastel buildings, tiled sidewalks, cozy cafes, and panoramic viewpoints over the Tagus River, Lisbon is a vibe all its own.
One of my must-do activities here? Riding the vintage Tram 28, which winds through the city’s historic neighborhoods. And of course, no visit is complete without devouring a few (dozen) Pastéis de Nata – those iconic Portuguese custard tarts truly changed my life.

3. Santorini, Greece – Like Stepping Into a Dream
Yes, Santorini really is as beautiful as the Instagram photos make it look. With its whitewashed buildings, blue-domed churches, and sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, this island is pure magic.
I spent my time wandering through narrow streets (with the occasional donkey sighting!), cooling off with local gelato, and taking in those iconic cliffside sunsets. Santorini is hands-down one of the most beautiful cruise ports in the Mediterranean.

4. Mykonos, Greece – Mamma Mia, What a Port!
Mykonos looks like it was made for movies. Between the charming alleys of Mykonos Town, stylish boutiques, and seaside cafes, it’s easy to fall in love here.
This island has such a fun, relaxed vibe – perfect for shopping, strolling, and soaking up the views. I can’t wait to return!

5. St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – Caribbean Beauty at Its Best
If you’re sailing through the Caribbean, St. Thomas is a must-visit port. From stunning beaches to lush mountains, it offers the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
My favorite thing to do? Hike up the hill behind the port for incredible panoramic views of the island – it’s a bit of a climb, but 100% worth it.

6. Cozumel, Mexico – Tacos, Tequila & Turquoise Waters
Cozumel is a crew favorite, and once you visit, you’ll understand why. Beyond the postcard-perfect beaches and amazing snorkeling, the real draw here is the food and vibe.
Think: fresh guacamole, strong margaritas, and stunning views of cruise ships floating in the distance. It’s the ultimate tropical stop.

7. Ålesund, Norway – Art Nouveau Meets Ocean Views
Ålesund feels like stepping into a storybook. The city is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, and walking through the colorful streets is a total delight.
With its scenic harbor, charming shops, and laid-back atmosphere, Ålesund is one of my favorite underrated cruise ports in Norway.

8. Naples, Italy – Pizza, Pompeii & Pure Energy
Naples is chaotic in the best way. It’s loud, lively, and delicious – especially if you’re into food (and who isn’t?). The gelato, the pizzas… omg. I love Italy.
Beyond the city, there are tons of amazing excursions – like visiting Pompeii, sailing to Capri, or grabbing gelato in Sorrento. If you’re cruising the Med, Naples is a port you don’t want to miss.

9. Funchal, Madeira – Mountains, Markets & Magical Views
This lush Portuguese island is a dream stop on transatlantic cruises. With its tropical landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and charming old town, Funchal quickly became a favorite of mine.
Be sure to ride the cable car to the top of the hill for jaw-dropping views, then treat yourself to some local food and wine. The hiking here is next level, too.

10. Castaway Cay, Bahamas – Disney’s Private Island Paradise
Last but definitely not least, Castaway Cay is Disney Cruise Line’s private island — and I’ve been lucky enough to visit it thousands of times. And yes, it’s just as magical every single time.
There’s so much to do: snorkeling, biking, relaxing on the beach… oh, and don’t forget the famous island cookies (seriously, the best cookies on Earth). Want more tips? Here’s my full guide to Castaway Cay »

The Best Cruise Ports I’ve Visited as a Crew Member
Working on a cruise ship has given me the chance to see some of the most beautiful cruise destinations in the world – and I’m endlessly grateful for every port day, hike, sunset, and slice of pizza.
From fjord-filled villages in Norway to sun-drenched Caribbean islands, these ports have left their mark on me. I can’t wait to keep exploring… Alaska, I’m coming for you next!
Disclaimer: Disney Cruise Line is the only cruise line I’ve worked for, so I can’t speak of the experience with other cruise lines. All opinions in this post are my own and not affiliated with Disney in any way.
